My Budding Artist

A gallery of selected works from my daughter, starting at age 3 and a half (and now almost 6). With an occasional guest appearance from her younger brother (now 4).

Another Brick in the Wall

Late September 2007

You would think that pre-school would be a little early to develop that "I'm only a cog in the meat grinder" feeling of a post World War II English school that Pink Floyd sang about in the titled song.

You'd be wrong.

"How can you have your pudding if you don't eat your meat!"

To Lose a Kite

Created Early October 2007

Luckily for Mr. Soft-boiled Egg, it was probably a good thing the string broke on his runaway kite. Who knows what terrible thing his shell would've cracked up against, trailing along behind his kite in the prevailing 35 mph winds.

Wired

What happens when a small insect falls into a freshly poured cup of happy.

Jurassic Park - Brookfield

Created August 25, 2007

Drawn in the excitement of a future Brookfield Zoo visit, this scene depicts the action of a T-Rex taking care of it's eggs in the dinosaur exhibit, under the lush canopy of a mighty jungle tree.

Really. It does. Honest.

The Fall of Icarus

Created October 6, 2007

Sadly, this time, Icarus AND his son both got a little bit too close to sun, and their wings have melted off. And based on their expressions, boy, do they know they are in trouble now!

The Cutest Duck You'll Ever See

Created October 7, 2007

On occasion, My Budding Artist takes to doing still-lifes of her current favorite doll. These are usually small, fit-in-your-hand kind of bean bag dolls.

And, for the most part, they are not named, unless the tag has a name.

Here is a picture of her favorite, at the time, duckling.

Ethan's hands

The hands of the next Budding Artist, with a little more than "just enough" finger paint.

Out of the Fryer

Created September 27, 2007

The nightmare artwork phase finished quickly enough, leaving us with a series of happy, sunny, rainbow images. Here, we see some type of happy bug about to be cooked in a frying pan.

Me, My House, Stones, and Grass

Created late September, 2007

What is amusing here in the title that Avery's teacher gave it, and the clear mistake she made when writing the title down. Any one was has had any contact with My Budding Artist can clearly see her, moving her hands at the appropriate time, while firmly stating, "NO! I call this Me, My House, STONES!!!, and Grass!"

Never, ever, forget the stones.

Evil Spongebob

Created Late September, 2007

Another image, a part of what I like to call My Budding Artist's nightmare phase in her artwork.

Spongebob over here does seem a bit worked up. He must have a fear of caterpillars.

Night Tremors of Fur

Created September 28, 2007

Why is the mouse on constant alert from the demon cat that enslaves her? Apparently, the mouse must taste like ham.

Yummy.

Hook, Line, and Sinker

Created September 27, 2007

It's one thing to a critter to be captured by a simple fishing pole and bait. But it's REALLY embarrassing to be caught in such a way that doesn't involve the hook getting stuck in one's mouth.

Photographs

Avery now has a digital camera. While she has had a film camera for a while, it became exceedingly obvious that developing pictures of things at strange angles with fingers in the way was a rather pricey experiment.

So, here's a select group of pictures taken from a 4 year old's vantage point.
