Future Hallmark Artist

Created May 29, 2007

My Budding Artist has taken up drawing cards for people, even going so far as to fold the paper in half, and provide drawings on the font and the proper "face" of the interior of the card.

The six faces on the front of the card are Mommy, Daddy, Avery, and Ethan. Plus those two insects on the bottom are actually the dogs, Roxie and Lily.

It a busy summery scene on the inside. Birds, a butterfly, some terrible man-eating flying fish thing, and quite a few sunflowers.

Swing Set of Horrors

Created May 31, 2007

While the headless remains of the body remains standing beneath the trapeze/rings combination, the head itself perches perilously on the top of the slide.

The Shopping List

Created May 28, 2007

So, here's a little game...

On the way out to the store, we recited the items we wanted to get. The Budding Artist had other plans. She announced that she would "make a list," went to the kitchen table, and started doodling a list!

Can you determine what items are on the list? And what store we are going to? Scroll down for answers.

The top row doodles are: Two toy tennis rackets, two toy tennis balls, and two scooters.
The middle row doodles are: Wii Mortal Kombat, Wii Bust-A-Move (crossed off because Daddy at the last minute decided against it), Bubble juice and bubble wands (I think Mommy drew that one), water balloons.
The third row doodles: unknown (well, I guess the dirty minded would say SEX, but since Toys R Us (the store name on the bottom) CLEARLY doesn't sell that. I doubt it. However, maybe that symbol on the far left is a cue for The-Artist-Formely-Known-And-Back-To-Being-Known-As-Prince's latest CD.

Ethan, for equal measure

Since Ethan doesn't get a lot of face-time around here, I thought I'd post a picture of him some you can see how closely Avery's drawings of Ethan resembles him.

Note the similarities in the pose here with Avery's redition of him in the picture in the previous post.

Well, ok, he's happy here (the neighbor boy was turning the hose on the Budding Artist and her brother at the time during the weekend). Maybe we need to find a better picture that illustrates his crabbiness.

There. That's better. In all of his action-packed, levitating glory!

The Budding Artist displays her work

Created June 12, 2007

Even though it's slightly out of order with the rest of her art in regards to date order, I thought I'd put this picture from a "gallery showing."

Even though he has a bigger head in the picture, the grumpy person is Ethan, the Crabby Budding Artist. The happy one is Avery.

Beowulf Revisited

Created May 27, 2007

Lost in the Land of Toes, the epic Hero battles and defeats Umwinifry, the Mighty Tukey. Succmbed to do his bidding, Hero mounts Umwinifry, and they ride together in the Quest for the Red Kite.

The Consumption Society

Created May 26, 2007

Yes, we live in a society where we can purchase almost anything our hearts desire. And yet, we are left somewhat empty in the sole chase of building our collection of otherwise nameless stuff.

What better exemplifies the soullessness of this pursuit than an empty shopping cart?

Nemo's World

Created May 26, 2007

My Budding Artist starts to develop a passion for creating multi-media arwork, combining the artistic freedom with crayons and the powerful message of re-purposing mass produced stickers to create new meaning to both.

And so, we have a scene of fish under water.
